Custom care labels...

Do it yourself...

When it comes to starting your own T-shirt line you soon discover that there are countless things to consider. One of the first things that i wanted to tackle when starting Grownkids was the "care label". As all of you should know, every piece of clothing comes with some kind of care instruction for that particular garment.  In keeping in line with T-shirts, there are two basic types of care label presentation.

1. Woven tags.

These are those little cloth squares or rectangles that are stitched into the the neckline of a T-shirt. There also different types of fabric used for woven care labels. Damask, Taffeta, and Satin are the three common fabric types used in creating a woven care label. I personally don't like a woven label scraping my neck but lots of clothing companies use this type of tag.

2. Screen printed tags.

Grownkids uses this method to produce our care labels. Screen printed labels are also widely used by clothing companies. In this process, the designer would create a graphic of the care label and have his printer work his magic and screen print the label directly on to the shirt. Not only do you have more freedom to make a more unique tag, you'll also save yourself the task of sewing anything into your shirts. Not having an itchy neck is also a plus. Another option for screen printed tags would be to have them printed on transfer paper, then heat press them onto your t-shits yourself. You would definitely need a heat press to accomplish this. I started out printing Grownkids care labels this way but found that the logo would crack when pulled on, not acceptable for me...

Figure out which method works best for you and get it done!...
